National Museum and Gallery of Novi Vinodolski

The National Museum of Novi Vinodolski was founded with the encouragement of enthusiasts and lovers of antiquities from Novi, led by Juraj Potočnjak in 1951. The museum was located in Biškupija, the bishop’s palace of the bishops of Modruš or Krbava in Novi. In 1973 it was moved to the second floor of the Frankopan castle and to the Turnac tower.

Very interesting and original exhibits in the museum stimulate the interest of visitors, because they can introduce them to the historical culture of the people of the area, their life and customs. Particularly interesting is the ethnographic collection of original folk costumes and instruments, the archaeological and hydroarchaeological findings from Novi Vinodolski and Povile, the collection of art objects and weapons and the memorial collection of the Mažuranić family.

UIn 2021, the museum marked 70 years of existence and work with the exhibition „70 nam je godina već ili tek“ We are already, or only, 70 years old).

The National Reading Room and Library is located on the ground floor of the Frankopan Castle. It was founded during the Illyrian Revival in 1845. The reading room played a very important role in the cultural life of the place, so the people from Novi, out of gratitude to its founder, Canon Josip Mažuranić, on December 9, 1988 erected a memorial plaque at his birthplace in the Old Town.

In addition to a rich offer of literature, other available services include copying, printing, using the computer and the Internet.
